Zomby EP
Zomby
Label: Hyperdub
Released: 08 Dec '08
(Dance, Electronic, Dubstep)
It isn’t often that you get to see/hear someone tear up the rule book and get away with it. This is one of those moments.
This EP HUGE!! Zomby’s coming in on a completely different angle on this one.
Need You
Darkstar
Label: Hyperdub
Released: 31 Mar '08
(Dance, Electronic, Dubstep)
“The dubstep single of the year is surely Darkstar’s “Need You”. First dropped on an unsuspecting DMZ crowd by Dub War’s Dave Q, it married a 2step flex with a hummable jungle bassline, sweet sexual vocoders with fuzzy wonky synths. It was perfectly formed but it sure wasn’t small. The reclamation of dubstep had begun.” – Blackdown

I stumbled across this seriously dope! beat tape on the net a few days ago and just had to share. It’s by Padmo’, who is one half of Belgian instrumental hip hop duo 40 Winks
The Change The Channel side project is his audio excursion into tv land. 30+ beats guide the listener through different channels, each channel representing a different vibe.
Best of all, album is available for free. Get it here

Flying Lotus is no doubt, the man of the moment. Effortless fusing classic Hip Hip, soulful Funk with the raw Bass fetish sweeping the globe.
This EP, his debut on Warp and one of his finest imo, catapulted him into the collective conciousness
Scion A/V Remix – Ninja Tune & Big Dada
Ghislain Poirier, Modeselektor / TTC, Ghislain Poirier
Label: Scion Audio Visual - Ninja Tune/Big Dada

I don’t speak much (ok, any) french, but whatever TTC are on about, you know it’s dirty! It’s all about the flip though… make sure you’ve secured all loose items in the area because when Modeselecktor drops the beat on this one it’s going to rattle your foundations!
Blood, Looms & Blooms
Leila
Label: Warp Records
Released: 07 Jul '08
(Electronic)
This album draws from so many different genres that it’s impossible to pigeon hole. Leila however, is an artist with an alluring vision and she weaves all these influences into something compelling, challenging, entertaining and sing-a-long all at the same time! ok, maybe not sing-a-long :)

One of the artistic guises of Atlanta’s Scott Herren, who is more well known for his work as Prefuse 73. And I think the vocals, and other half of the duo, are provided by his girl friend but I could be wrong.
Either way, the flirtatious vocals and suave beats makes this well worth checking out

Got Harmonic's "Dirtbox," great tune!
I've listened to some more Hyperdub, and while it's still not my cup of tea (doesn't hit me), I've come to respect Zomby, Darkstar & Ikonika. Brave & fresh new sounds mixing in a lot of styles.

Just checked out and got "Better Place (Remix)" by 4hero, what a great jungle tune! Expertly-played-off-each-other mix of sounds, hasn't lost it's impact at all.

From the MAH Hyperdub show, I actually really liked the second tune, "Router" by Pangaea. Such a sweet beat and vibe. Great use of vocal sample (used in Brookes Brothers' "Dawn Treader"). Thanks!
I'm also kinda liking Kode9's new "Bad" tune.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm downloading the Hyperdub MAH mix as I type and will get the Zomby Werk release soon after.

Great beats selection, cLOUDEAD is psychedelic goodness. Wish Kano's "P's & Q's" was on PMS, beat is HARD.
I try to like non-Burial Hyperdub but can't get into it. Guess I'm a sucker for UK garage beats, not proper dubstep :)
Thanx 4 the fav!

"Music to reward your sense of curiosity" - I'm thinking of buying something from your main collection, I want some Funckarma maybe. Is there a particular track you might recommend?
